Your thoughts shape your reality—choose them wisely
When you look in the mirror, do you see your future or your past? Where do your thoughts linger, consciously or unconsciously? Do you dwell on memories of the past, or are your thoughts aligned with the person you want to become, the future you envision?

What happens when your mind is a record of the past
Isn't it interesting to reflect on what it truly means when your brain is a record of the past? What impact does this have on your present and your future? If your days are shaped by routines, then most of the year looks the same. Today could be copied onto tomorrow because your days follow the same pattern. Apart from the four or five weeks of vacation and weekends, you spend most of your time working. Your days are filled with sleeping, commuting, working, and eating until the weekend arrives. That adds up to about 235 days a year in a full-time job.
If 95% of your thoughts are the same every day, what does that mean for your future? It means that in five, ten, or even twenty years, your life will look almost identical to today... Unless you change the way you think.
When you look in the mirror, do you see your future or your past? The answer lies in what you choose to focus on today.
The illusion of change when your thoughts remain the same
When your mind constantly revisits the same memories and patterns, you reinforce the reality you already know. The thoughts running through your head today are the same ones you had yesterday, and they will shape the ones you have tomorrow. As a result, if nothing shifts internally, your external reality will remain unchanged.
Are your actions aligned with your dreams?
If you take a moment to reflect, what does that realization do to you? Are you living your life the way you truly want to? Or would you change certain things? Would you want more time for yourself, for your family? Would you switch careers or start your own business? What dreams and goals do you have? And do your daily thoughts and actions align with them? Or are you postponing them for 'someday' in the future?
But what future are you really creating if today looks like tomorrow, and if your thoughts today are mostly the same as yesterday, dwelling in the past? Does this mean you have an idea of the future in your mind, but your current life does not reflect it?
What if I told you that in 10 or 20 years, not much would have changed? You would be older, have even less time at your disposal, but still not be any closer to your dreams. Unless you stop holding on to the past and start thinking in alignment with the future you truly want to create. Because thoughts shape your reality.
The weight of expectations and breaking free from them
I struggled with this myself when I started working and realized that my job was draining more energy than it was giving me. What if I slowly climbed the corporate ladder, earning a good salary, holding on to that 'security' that felt safe? But would I still want to live that life in 10 years?
It didn’t take me long to decide that this was far from what I wanted. As expected, I received plenty of unsolicited opinions. People told me I was just starting out, that I shouldn’t step too far outside my comfort zone, that I could take my time paying off my student debt, and that I had plenty of years ahead to reach my goals. But the truth is, it is essential to stand by your own decisions and not let the opinions of others dictate your path.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Does this feel familiar to you? How old are you now? Do you stand behind the choices you have made throughout your life? What advice would you give your younger self if you could go back and do something differently?
Thoughts shape your reality, be present
True transformation begins the moment you consciously break free from this cycle and start thinking in alignment with the future you want to create. The past does not have to define your future unless you allow it to. Every single moment, including today, is an opportunity to choose differently. To become aware of what you focus on and whether it aligns with the future you want.
If you want a predictable future, you can keep doing what you’ve always done, and nothing will change. But if you want to create a different future, live intentionally and don’t wait for 'someday.' Be mindful of your thoughts, because thoughts create your reality. <3
